We share monogenic diabetes data with NHS England for the purposes of the National Diabetes Audit (NDA). NHS England has a legal obligation to collect this data under the National Diabetes Audit Directions 2017. Our legal basis to share this data with NHS England is section 259(1)(a) of the Health and Social Care Act 2012. If you have registered a national data opt-out to prevent your data from being used for purposes beyond your care and treatment, e.g. planning and research, your monogenic diabetes data will still be shared with NHS England. This is because the national data opt-out does not apply when information is required by law.
